Informational Articals - Postmodernism - Postmodern Literature
One of the most prominent eras of literature work is during the period of postmodernism. You will find literature from this frame of time that is very unique and expressive. Postmodern literate allowed individuals to write what they wanted to in any style they felt comfortable. They were no longer bound by the rigorous expectations of what writers should write about and the format in which they should do it in.
There is plenty of controversy surrounding postmodern literature though. Many Churches and other organizations were appalled by the literature available during the postmodern period. They felt it was too explicit and not something that people who belonged to their group should be reading. Book burnings were quite common and many publishers and writers faced extreme criticism for their work.
Many of the early works of postmodern literature are a free flowing expression of the individuals. They are experimental as the story is told from a narrative point of view instead of that of the third person. The stories are quite objective compared to those before this particular period in time. They allowed individuals to draw their own conclusions about the information they read.
Many people believe postmodern literature has paved the way for the expressiveness that is allowed in literature today. Since reading is a valuable way for individuals to get information to base their own personal decisions upon, there needs to be plenty of selection out there. With postmodern literature individuals could read about what they wanted to- not what the governing bodies decided individuals needed to read about.
There are some central themes in literature that emerged during the period of postmodernism. Metafiction is the process of holding the reader in suspense by shifting the focus from one set of subjects to another and then back again. As the story goes along these changes form a pattern that unfolds and comes together in the end. The use of irony and humor became very well known during the postmodern era as well.
