The role of being a paramedic is often one that comes from a sense of willingness to help others. It can be very challenging and rewarding at the same time to be a paramedic. Once you have your certification in this field there are plenty of job opportunities you can take advantage of.

Most paramedics find they work 40-50 hours per week depending on the emergencies that arise during their shift. The hours may be very irregular due to the nature of the work because it is never known when they will be dispatched. There is a great deal of paperwork that has to be completed by paramedics after they have completed a dispatch.

The training that is required to be a paramedic depends on the state you live in as well as the employer you are working for. There are several levels of training and certification for paramedics so the higher certification you have the more job options you will have available.

You will also get paid more for your efforts on the job because you can handle more duties. The average pay for a paramedic with moderate level certification is $27,710 but it can be as much as $43,240. Private paramedic jobs tend to may more and the more experience you have in the profession the more you can expect to get paid for your level of skills.

Paramedics have to get their certification renewed on a regular basis that also varies by state. They also need to have good judgment, make quick decisions, be in good health both physically and mentally, and offer excellent communication skills. Most paramedics enjoy their jobs even though they can be difficult because it is a nice feeling to know their efforts helped others.
