Informational Articals - Packing & Shipping
Many of us have friends and family members who live quite some distance from us. It is common to send them a gift for the holidays and for their birthdays. However it is very important that you take the time to pack those items properly. You want to be able to protect them during transit as much as possible.
This all starts with selecting durable packing supplies. Make sure you use boxes that are authorized for delivery by the particular shipping company you plan to use. It is fine to use boxes that other items have been shipped to you in but make sure you mark out the bar code so the shipping scanners don’t read it. The packaging should be sealed up very securely in case you package gets moved around often during transit.
It is a good idea to write the shipping address directly on the packaging with permanent ink. You should use either black or blue ink because they are quite easy to read. Some people choose to write the shipping address on a label or a piece of paper that they tape to the package. However if that tape doesn’t stick your package may end up not getting delivered.
There are plenty of different shipping options depending on who you decide to use for getting your packages delivered. Make sure you use the right size of package for the items you are shipping. Most shipments charge you based on weight not on the size of the package you use. If you don’t have the packaging materials you need you can often purchase them from the shipper.
If you are packing your household items to have them shipped to a new residence or to storage you need to make sure you pack each box carefully. Pay attention to the weight limit posted on each box. You don’t want the box to break when it is picked up by the shipper.
Keep an inventory of how many boxes you packed and what the contents are in each box. It is a good idea to number each box and then keep a list of what is in it. This way if you think some of your items are missing you will know exactly what it is. This is also very helpful when you are searching around a new house full of boxes for the one that holds your towels or other necessity.
