Loneliness is a type of emotion that a person may experience due to various factors in their life. Some people may be surrounding by people in their life but still feel alone. Isolation may be a factor in many cases but it doesn’t have to be present. A person can feel loneliness even when they are living with someone. This is due to the emotional detachment or the amount of stress that has overshadowed their relationship.
Sometimes loneliness can be a result of depression or it can be a cause of loneliness. Individuals who are experiencing this type of emotion don’t take pleasure in basic hobbies or social activities that they used to. They may refrain from engaging in them at all due to the lack of pleasure they now get from it.
Loneliness can be the result of someone being separated from someone they love. Even with phone calls and letters that feeling can still be present. Many individuals who are in the military or have a strong relationship with someone who is feel loneliness at the time of deployment.
It is important for individuals who are experiencing loneliness to do all they can to overcome it. There are plenty of support groups to be a part of and therapy or counseling can be a good option as well. The longer feelings of loneliness continue the more damaging they can be. They can cause an individual to suffer with their relationships, their career could suffer, and their health may deteriorate.
To fully conquer feelings of loneliness the underlying causes have to be identified. For many individuals it can be due to a lack of trust in other people due to failed relationships in their past. It could also be a symptom of a type of mental disorder. Having low self esteem can result in loneliness because the individual never fully believes they have been accepted by the group.
Building quality relationships is the key to resolving loneliness. You may only have a handful of friends but if you are comfortable with them and know you can share any experiences with them you will feel satisfied. Individuals who have a large number of acquaintances are more likely to feel lonely because they aren’t able to develop deep bonds with anyone.
