Informational Articals - Juggling - Contact Juggling
Contact juggling is quite different from the common image of juggling that most of us have. Contact juggling has more to do with creating a variety of illusions rather than getting the attention focused on the props that are being placed into motion. With contact juggling though there isn’t a constant amount of props in motion that they person is continually touching and moving on to the next sequence in the act.
With contact juggling there is generally only one or two balls or other type of prop in use. There are several different types of contact juggling that individuals use. Isolationism is the concept of making one particular object appear to be suspended in air without the person holding onto it in any way. Palm spinning is the most popular type of contact juggling people participate in. This involves using two props with one of them being in constant motion. The props are manipulated by moving them from one hand to the other. Body rolling is the idea of being able to use the arms and hands to move the objects but they aren’t ever placed into the air.
While contact juggling has been in place for several decades it isn’t as widely recognized as traditional juggling. It is also considered to be much harder to learn since it requires plenty of skill to create various illusions of control to manipulate the audience into believing what they are seeing. There are plenty of tutorial videos to be found both online and that you can buy too few at home if you are interested in learning more about contact juggling. There are also numerous sites where you can contact others to ask them for assistance or tips for contact juggling.
It is going to take plenty of practice but eventually you will be able to roll, spin, and toss the ball using your fingertips and your arms. As you practice you will develop more strength in your hands and forearms. This will allow you to be able to develop more control for the various types of contact juggling you want to participate in. Be very careful with the equipment that you use for contact juggling though because you will likely hit your face and drop them on your toes while you are learning.
