Informational Articals - Insulin -

All loving people and animals require insulin to survive. However not everyone is able to produce enough insulin on their own. Insulin is commonly used to treat those who have diabetes as it helps regulate the amount of glucose in the body. If a person has Type I diabetes then they are able to check their blood sugar on a regular basis and inject themselves with insulin when they need to.

Insulin is not effective for Type II diabetes treatment. The discovery of being able to use insulin to treat diabetes though warranted the awarding of a Nobel Peace Prize in 1923. For most people their blood sugar remains constant unless they eat a large amount of sweets at one time or they often skip meals.

For those with diabetes though their blood sugar levels change often. Many people experience on a regular basis and they are able to tell the difference in how they feel. Being able to self administer insulin to control diabetes allows such individuals to be able to live as normal of a life as possible.

Insulin is not effective if it is administered orally so it has to be injected or with the use of either syringes, an insulin pump, or various types of insulin pens. It is very important that you administer the right amount of insulin as directed by your doctor. It does take time to find the right dose and you will need to track how you feel and report that information to your doctor.

There is the concept of an inhaler type of insulin has been developed but it is still in the trial stages. The FDA has approved one such inhaler of insulin called Exubera. This option is only right for individuals with very mild cases of diabetes.

One of the biggest problems for diabetics isn’t the type of insulin they take or how it is administered. The issue lies with knowing when to administer it. Since there are so many variables that can affect the blood sugar levels for diabetics they have to tune in to the signals of their body. This can be difficult with young children but over time and careful observation parents and caregivers can learn when it should be administered.
