Curfews are enforced in many different ways at various institutions. They are in place to prevent individuals from engaging in activities they shouldn’t be. They also help keep order because everyone is confined to the same rules and regulations. Most curfews are in place for safety reasons as well. Breaking curfew can result in those involved being placed on probation or expelled. Curfews are often enforced in college dorms, military training, and even by parents for their children.
Many towns a cities strictly enforce a curfew for those under 18 years of age. This is to help reduce the amount of criminal activity that takes place during the later hours of the evening. A common curfew time is 10 pm during the week and 11 pm on the weekends. Many towns have a different curfew in place when there are community events or school activities that run later than this. In such instances the curfew many be up to one hour after the end has ended.
For the most part people are willing to comply with the rules of curfews. They understand why the are in place and they do their part to comply. Some times curfews have to be enforced by law enforcement as a punishment for something. Individuals who reside in a half way house have to show they are complying with curfews and other requirements of the courts before they will be considered to have successfully completed the program. A violation will result in them being sent back to prison.
In many instances curfews are set for individuals based on their previous behaviors and their level of responsibility. Having a curfew doesn’t mean you don’t have any rights or privileges. It does mean that you have to be very careful about getting back to your location before a specified time in order to remain in compliance with those set guidelines. Those who aren’t defiant with curfews tend to get their times extended.
In those instances when everyone is under the umbrella of the same curfew it is easier to enforce it. Most people find it is also easier to comply with it because everyone else has to be accounted for at the same time. That doesn’t leave anyone to hang out with and so the thrill of it won’t be there.
