The induction process into various types of hall of fame categories depends on how the process is going to be operated. For the majority of them though there is a nomination process where various names are mentioned. From there votes are taken to determine those who will go into the hall of fame. In some categories more than one inductee is processed annually.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has very specific guidelines that are followed for their induction process. There are several categories and each has different guidelines. Performers can only be nominated 25 years after the release of their first record. The nominees are determined by historians in the area of rock and roll music. Ballots for the voting process are sent to 1,000 people in the industry. The generally select the top four or five nominees to be inducted.
To be nominated into the Baseball Hall of Fame players must have played at least ten seasons on a major league team. It doesn’t matter if all the seasons were played on the same team or not. The player must also have retired from the sport at least five years ago. Managers, umpires, and executives of major league baseball teams don’t have to compile with any time limits.
After the nominees are chosen there is a voting process that takes place. Each vote is based on the career and/or contributions that they individual has made to the game of major league baseball.
The process is quite similar for the Football Hall of Fame in reference to the nomination and voting processes. Players and coaches can be nominated the first season following their retirement.
