The gulf coast refers to the area of the United States where the Gulf of Mexico is located. This stretches along the states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. While this gulf coast area offers plenty of job opportunities in the way of fishing boats and oil processing, it is also a dangerous area to be living along. The gulf coast is highly susceptible to natural disasters including hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods.
Along the gulf coast you will find major ports for cargo to be imported and exported to and from all areas of the world. There is plenty of work to be found along these docks as well. The trucking industry is very popular along the gulf coast as well. A large number of trucks are required to transport materials to other areas of the United States. Most truck drivers enjoy going to the gulf coast area because there is always plenty of freight to go back out due to the volume of exports.
There is also plenty of tourism that takes place along the gulf coast of these United States areas. There are numerous activities to take part in as well as enjoying the beauty of the beach. The cost of living is often very high along the gulf coast though because of the demand for these prime property locations. The cost of homeowner’s insurance is also expensive though due to the risk of natural disasters striking.
The gulf coast region of the United States is very important though to the overall economy of the entire United States. Many people who don’t live in that area are unaware of the vitality the United States economy experiences from the convenience of the waterways being located in that area.
To help ensure there is plenty of positive energy and agreements taking place along the gulf coast President Bush signed the Gulf Opportunity Zone Act in 2005. This was also implemented to help those in the area to have the economic resources to rebuild after a devastating flooding hit New Orleans. Many small business loans were offered so that more people could benefit from jobs along the gulf coast area.
