Informational Articals - Guitars - Bass Guitars

Bass guitars are those that you need to use a guitar pick with or pluck the strings in order to create sounds. The style of a bass guitar features a very long neck so that a multitude of sounds can be created from it. Most bass guitars feature four strings that are made from nylon. These strings are one octave lower than the bass strings so that there is a harmony in the pitch. Due to the range a bass guitar offers it is commonly used in many different types of music and for guitar solos.

Bass guitars were first introduced in the 1930’s. They have evolved over time but they are still very basis. Many people refer to the bass guitar as a true guitar or a classic guitar because it maintains its original roots. Even though styles of music evolve over time bass guitars continue to be a very important part of the sounds that have been recorded and those just emerging. Many recording artists have started the flow for their songs by using a bass guitar before adding any other instruments.

Fender Guitars is credited with the success of manufacturing and marketing bass guitars in the 1960’s even though they did not create the concept. The various models of bass guitars they offered quickly allowed them to take over the market. In 1970 though Gibson Guitars introduced their line of bass guitars.

They found a new competitor in 1979 with Steinberger who came on board with a headless bass guitar at that time. They also introduced a five string bass guitar instead of the traditional four string versions. These three companies continue to be the leaders in the industry and fiercely compete with each other in the professional guitar market as well as sales to the general public.

Bass guitars offer plenty of depth to the musical sounds they are a part of. Removing the bass guitar sound from any of these would result in the popularity of the music diminishing. Of all the different guitars out there the bass seems to have found a solid foundation in the music industry that has allowed it to survive over the years and across many types of musical influences.
