Firefighters risk their lives each time the go to battle a fire. They work hard to ensure the safety of other people. Even though their profession is very challenging the put their whole heart into their efforts. Firefighters have to be physically fit in order to complete the requirements of their job. It is important that their mental health is in good condition as well in order to help the cope with the events that they witness while on the scene.
Firefighters have to undergo a great deal of training that varies by state. Once they have successfully shown they are able to perform all of the duties of the job they are able to apply for a certification. This certification has to be renewed on a basis that is determined by the state they hold a certification in. Most firefighters continually undergo ongoing training as well.
There is plenty of work to be done by firefighters when they aren’t actually fighting the flames. They are completing paperwork to document the fire calls they have responded to, making sure their equipment is operating properly, maintaining the fire trucks, and educating the public about fire safety.
Research has shown that children are often afraid of firefighters due to the way they look in their uniforms. To help resolve this issue firefighters in full gear are attending school assemblies. This way young children are aware of what a firefighter will look like if they come into their home to assist them.
Educating the pubic about fire safety is a very crucial part of any firefighter’s job. Even in the workplace fires can start due to candles being lit, faulty wiring, overloading electrical outlets, and smoking. Families, schools, and businesses should all have a fire evacuation plan in place. This way it is very easy to see who has been accounted for.
Firefighters work very hard to help reduce the amount of damage due to a fire. They are more concerned with making sure everyone in the building or home is out safely. They also protect each other during the battle of fighting a fire. There are many firefighters who have lost their life while on duty as they tried to save someone else. Their unselfish sacrifices are often honored in their community.
