Informational Articals - Firefighters - Firefighters Uniform
There are several different uniforms that firefighters may make appearances in. The specifics of these uniforms are determined by the particular fire department they work for. In most instances though there are three type of firefighter’s uniforms that they wear depending on the occasion.
While performing basic in house duties and talking at schools most firefighter uniforms consist of dark blue pants and shirts. The shirts may be either long sleeved or short sleeved. It is very common for their uniform to require them to wear a badge or ID card for proper identification.
There are dressier firefighter uniforms that may have to be worn for special occasions including public speaking, banquets, and even to funerals of fallen firefighters who have died in the line of duty. A hat may or may not be required for both the casual and the dress uniforms that firefighters wear.
The most important part of any firefighter’s uniform is the equipment used to protect them when they enter a facility to fight a fire. They need protection against the flames and the smoke. These uniforms include a hard hat to protect their head from falling debris.
They also have to wear suits that cover their entire body except for their face. These suits are heavy and thick to protect them from the heat and the smoke while they battle a blaze. Boots that are sturdy and durable cover their feet and protect them from the heat of the fire.
One of the crucial parts of a firefighter’s uniform is the mask that covers the face. This is to protect the face from fire and smoke damage. They also carry oxygen in order to breathe while they are in the building or residence where the fire is taking place. The quality of the firefighter’s uniform when they are in action is very important. They have to inspect all of their equipment for wear on a regular basis.
In most instances the firefighters uniforms are provided by the agency they work for. The firefighter has the responsibility of keeping their uniforms clean and professional looking. It is important for firefighters in uniform to remember what they represent no matter which of the given uniforms they happen to be in.
