The Brothers Grimm are well known for creating some of the most timeless fairy tales of all times. Grimm’s fairy tales are the work of two brothers – Jacob and Wilhelm, and they are said to be among the greatest story tellers of all time. They are responsible for fairy tales children love to hear today including Hansel & Gretel, Snow White, and Cinderella. They are responsible for completing more than 200 fairy tales.

There are many central themes to be found in Grimm’s fairy tales though if you have read many of them you will be able to identify them. For example there are many references to evil villains, mean step mothers, princesses, and good overcoming evil. The Grimm brothers spent a great deal of their childhood making up such stories as they lost their father early in life and their mother struggled to meet their basic needs.

Both of the brothers became professors in 1830 in the areas of linguistics and philosophy. They believed individuals should have the freedom to express their own thoughts and ideas through literature. They also wanted to provide stories for people of all ages to enjoy. They believed the quality of their stories would encourage more people to take an interest in reading.

There are many compilations for the Grimm’s fairy tales that you can add to your collection. These are wonderfully illustrated books for the whole family.
