Informational Articals - Child Custody

The issue of child custody is not one to be taken lightly. In some instances only one parent wants the responsibility of the child or children they have created together. This is a good time to take legal action to terminate the rights of the other parent so that they don’t appear later on wanting to have some say in the choices made for those children. However most child custody issues stem from both parents wanting to be involved in the life of their child or children.

Being objective about child custody isn’t easy when you are one of the parents involved so that is why advocates, attorney’s, and even the courts have to step in and make decisions that they feel will be right for the children in such situations. The overall goal is to ensure the safety and well being of the children. If both of the parents are responsible adults and they want to be a part of the life of their children then it is likely going to happen.

The specifics of a child custody case depend on the ages of the children, the information shared by the parents, and even the work schedules of the parents. For example a child who has a mom who works 8 to 5 and a dad who is an over the road truck driver will have a different custody arrangement than one with both parents who work a 8 to 5, Monday through Friday schedule.

If both parents are on good terms it is easier to come up with a child custody agreement that will work for everyone. The paperwork can be drawn up by an attorney or even with various forms that can be found online. Make sure they are signed in front of an attorney or a notary of the public. You will save a great deal of time and money if you can come to a reasonable child custody agreement that doesn’t have to take place in the courtroom.

It is important to adhere to a child custody schedule that has been implemented by the courts. You may not agree with it but you have a responsibility to your children to do so. You also face the risk of various charges that stem from not being in compliance with a legal order. Child custody is never easy for those involved but doing your part to ensure the children can adjust to it is your responsibility as their parent.
