Informational Articals - Circuses High Wire
Have you ever tried to keep yourself steady on a balance beam that is just inches off the ground? It doesn’t seem to be very risky but when you advance to one that is six or seven feet of the ground the stakes increase. There are generally mats underneath to help break the fall should you lose your balance along the way. For the ultimate thrill though imagine being on a high wire in a circus where you are at least sixty feet or more off of the ground.
One of the things you will instantly notice about any high wire act in a circus is how very thin the wire is that they are expected to walk across. It is a misconception that this is just an illusion and that the individual is held in place by invisible wires attached to the poles. These poles actually help the individual maintain their balance thanks to the science known as physics.
Anyone who plans to be part of the high wire act has to be very light and have a strong physique. They also have to display plenty of courage and determination if they plan to be successful. While the high wire act may look very simple to those watching it is only through hours and hours of training that this is able to be displayed.
Most high wire acts involve much more than just walking across the thin wire using that pole for balance though. Most crowds want a variety of tricks to take place as well including flips. For safety reasons there is a net below because even the most skilled high wire artists may have a wrong step now and then that can cost them their life if the safety net weren’t there.
Being part of the high wire act is a prestigious part of any circus though. The crowd goes wild as these performers begin the climb to the top of the area where the wire is displayed high above the ground. They wear glamorous costumes that help set the tone for their amazing acrobatics that impress everyone in the crowd. You won’t want to miss the circus when it comes to town if you are looking for some exciting events to unfold.
