If you want to take in a unique play or musical when you attend New York you may find one of the off Broadway shows will be a good choice. They are much easier to get tickets to and less expensive than going to an actual Broadway show. This is also the perfect opportunity to see stars in the making. You can see performers who will one day have top billings in opening shows on Broadway. Just because these shows are labeled as Off Broadway it doesn’t mean they aren’t worth seeing.

Off Broadway shows take place in the many small theatres that are located all over New York. They also hold less than 500 seats for the performance so you can be sure to get a much better seat then if you are in the very back of an actual Broadway show.

Off Broadway shows have a lower budget for the entire performance but they often still have amazing lighting and costumes. You won’t feel like you are watching a low budget film. In fact you will find that there is a great deal of creativity in Off Broadway shows and that they are willing to experiment with new ideas. Some of the producers of Off Broadway shows eventually end up being the director of high publicity Broadway shows.

You may have to do some checking to find out what the various Off Broadway shows offered are though because most of them don’t get very much advertising due to the expense. You can even get tickets for them the night of the show in many cases so if you find yourself with some free time on your hands at the last minute while in New York take in one of the shows. There are plenty of vendors in the area of the theatres that offer discounted tickets for shows that day that aren’t sold out.

If an Off Broadway production does well you may find it has a long running production. In fact many Off Broadway productions do so well they are later moved onto Broadway. I can be a nice feeling to know you watched the play or musical when it was only starting out. You had excellent seats and the tickets didn’t cost you a fortune.
