When it comes to theatre, being cast in one of the various programs that run on Broadway is considered to be the peak of the business. The program can be in the form of a musical or a play. To recognize individuals who have done an outstanding job on Broadway, the Tony Awards are an annual event. Even with the continued popularity of the shows on Broadway though many of the venues continue to see a decline in the number of tickets the sell for shows. With the costs of the industry continuing to rise these theatres find themselves having to either charge more for tickets, pay actors and actresses less, or closing their doors altogether. The most recent Broadway theatre to close its doors is the Ethel Barrymore Theatre which closed in July of 2007.
