Informational Articals - Broadway

When it comes to theatre, being cast in one of the various programs that run on Broadway is considered to be the peak of the business. The program can be in the form of a musical or a play. Actors and actresses from all over the world come to New York in an attempt to be cast in one of the Broadway shows. In general it seems that Broadway musicals are more successful than plays.

Seeing a show on Broadway is one of the most popular tourist attractions in all of New York. It is a good idea to purchase your tickets for the shows you want to see as soon as possible. The most popular shows often sell out quickly so if you will only be in the area for a short amount of time you need to plan well in advance.

There are plenty of wonderful Broadway theatres to choose from, all with their own rich history. The décor of the various theatres as well as the quality of the productions they run are what determines the success they have. Since there is so much competition among the theatres they have to be very selective about which productions they run. That is why some of the more popular Broadway shows are continually brought back again and again.

To recognize individuals who have done an outstanding job on Broadway, the Tony Awards are an annual event. Various shows that run on Broadway are featured including songs performed live that are part of the most popular musicals on Broadway. In recent years the Tony Awards have started being televised which brings more recognition to the efforts of those who bring us wonderful Broadway shows for our entertainment.

Even with the continued popularity of the shows on Broadway though many of the venues continue to see a decline in the number of tickets the sell for shows. With the costs of the industry continuing to rise these theatres find themselves having to either charge more for tickets, pay actors and actresses less, or closing their doors altogether. The most recent Broadway theatre to close its doors is the Ethel Barrymore Theatre which closed in July of 2007.
