Broadway musicals tend to draw a larger crowd and thus have longer runs in production than plays. There are many wonderful Broadway musicals that have proven to be very successful over the years. The Phantom of the Opera holds the record for the most live shows on Broadway. This particular show is a love story that unfolds in a story of a haunted theatre.
There are quite a few versions of Phantom of the Opera that are done in various locations around the world including Las Vegas. However many individuals find that none of them compare to the quality of seeing it performed on Broadway. The same producer of The Phantom of the Opera created the top selling musical Cats.
While Cats was not anticipated to be a quality Broadway musical while it was in the works critics were pleasantly surprised. Since 1982 this particular Broadway musical has had no trouble selling out shows. It has been able to sustain very long runs on Broadway. Up until 2006 it was the top selling musical of all time on Broadway. In the past couple of years it has been surpassed in that category by Phantom of the Opera.
Chicago is a very popular Broadway musical that takes place in a time of corruption during prohibition in Chicago. While the original musical was introduced in the late 1920’s it was very successfully revived in the mid 1990’s. Chicago continues to be one of the top Broadway musicals in New York that people are interested in seeing.
There are some hilarious Broadway musicals that are worth seeing as well. One of the most notable is Hairspray. It is fun story about a young girl who dreams about making it to dance on one of her favorite TV shows. This particular Broadway musical will soon be released as a motion picture movie. This is quite common with many of the various Broadway musicals. However, it doesn’t seem to deter from the number of people who go to New York to enjoy the show live.
There are plenty of Broadway musicals that are appropriate for the entire family to enjoy. Most of them are based on popular movies or even books that have done well with children. Some of the most popular ones include The Lion King, Mary Poppins, the Little Mermaid, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
