Informational Articals - Spending Habits

Everyone has different spending habits and that can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you view it. One of the biggest conflicts in any marriage is issue of how money will be spent. The number of couples who have no realistic budget is unbelievable. Conflicts often arise when one person is a spender and the other is a saver. Both many feel that the other person is not handling the money efficiently.

Many people observe their spending habits from their own parents so they may find themselves being able to handle money properly while others seem to never have any no matter how much they make. It may require the intervention of a credit counselor to help some people identify problems with their spending habits.

Sometimes excessive spending is the result of an emotional need not being filled. Many people shop when they are angry, lonely, or bored. If these feelings occur often then the spending can quickly spiral out of control. The society we live in is also responsible for many issues associated with spending habits. We all learn quickly that if we can’t afford it we can charge it. However the amount of finance charges this results in over time is unbelievable.

It is a good idea to sit down and take a close look at your own spending habits. If you are a couple then you should do this together. Identifying where your income is going is the first place to start as this can help you identify what you are doing right and where you could improve. Try not to charge items that you really don’t need as credit cards should be for emergency use only.

It isn’t a good idea to get into the habit of spending all the money you earn. You need to make it a habit to put a percentage of your earnings into a savings account. You never know when an emergency expense is going to come up. If you discover that you have plenty saved up then you can consider a new purchase or you can take a nice vacation. Keep an eye on your spending habits though so you won’t end up ruining your credit or being in a desperate financial situation.
