There are three different types of metadata used – content, mutability, and logical function. Content generally refers to a type of resource that the metadata is able to identify for you to use. Mutability means that it can change format. For example it can be the content or it can be the title. The logical function of metadata refers to the layers of the system where the raw data and the symbols for it are combined to provide users with a logical format they can use.
While most of use aren’t familiar with the specifics of metadata you can be assured the concepts and applications of it are going on all around you behind the scenes. Metadata can be found in computers, data entry, business programs, and analyzation tools. It is a valuable resource in many ways and it will likely continue to be even more important as technology continues to advance.
