| Interpreters
Interpreters are able to help other people communicate basic information, business dealings, and even legal information for with an attorney or with the courts. Interpreters fall into two basic categories – those that use sign language to interpret what is being said to others who are able to hear but don’t know sign language. Other interpreters know more than one language. They are able to translate information when those wishing to communicate don’t share a common language.
Interpreters can be professionals are just individuals who want to help out. For example if you know English and Spanish you might be helping one of the parties negotiate purchasing a used vehicle from the other party. Professional interpreters are often employed by businesses who deal with International clients, public agencies, and the courts.
It is important for an interpreter to have a good understanding of the type of information that is going on in a particular type of business. This is because they don’t translate the information word for word. If the information doesn’t translate to the same context though it can create some issues for the parties involved.
In the world of politics interpreters are very important as well. At the United Nations conferences each of the various parties from around the world have a couple of interpreters with them who translate the information. This is generally done with the person needing the information wearing headphones. The interpreter hears what is being said and then speaks it from a sound proof area into a feed so that it can be heard by the person needing the information.
The military has plenty of use for interpreters as well. For example they use them to communicate with people from other countries. There are currently thousands of interpreters in both Iraq and Afghanistan working on behalf of the United States government.
Interpreters will find that there plenty of job opportunities for them in many aspects. They can work for a particular entity where they will perform the same jobs over and over again or work as a freelancer and work for one individual meeting all of their translating needs. Others work for agencies and work on a variety of interpreting jobs that last for different lengths of time.
