Immunization Articles - Infant Immunizations

Infants are defenseless and depend on their parent’s for everything. It is important for infants to get regular checkups to help promote their growth and to identify any problems. Parents work hard to protect their children from becoming ill and from harm. One of the best ways to do that is to make sure your baby gets immunizations. Your doctor will help you stay on track with getting them at the right times.

With the right immunizations your baby will have the defense mechanisms to fight of various diseases including measles, mumps, rubella, polio, and rubella. These diseases are virtually unknown in the United States today due to successful immunization programs for infants. Failing to get your child immunized against them means they can fall into the small percentage of children suffering from them. The results include serious illness, disabilities, and even death.

Perhaps it is this lack of seeing children actually diagnosed with such diseases that keeps so many parents from getting the immunizations for their infants. The cost should not be an issue because there are many public programs at health departments and clinics that offer the immunizations for a very low cost or for free.

Statistics show that 20% of the infants in the United States are not up to date on their immunizations. In a small percentage of these cases it is do to the child being chronically ill so they aren’t able to get the immunizations on time. The parents are working closely with the doctors to get them current though but there has to be a certain lapse of time between each of the immunizations in the series for them to be effective.

In the remaining cases it is a matter of parents not taking the time to get the immunizations. They may not see them for the important part of taking care of an infant that they truly are. Other parents find the immunization process to be cruel. They simply don’t want to put their child through the painful experience. Yet the pain of an immunization is nothing compared to the pain of suffering from one of the diseases they are to protect against.

The first couple years of life are very important for every child. The care they get during that period of time plays a vital role in their development both physically and mentally for the rest of their life. Making sure every child gets the necessary immunizations is a vital part of that. Parents and caregivers of children have a responsibility to make sure these immunizations are being received as needed.
