Immunization Articles - Immunization Records

There are plenty of required immunizations that a child has to get, especially during the first couple years of life. An immunization record is the best place to keep track of this information. Since showing proof that your child has received these immunizations is so important you need to keep these records in a safe location.

Many of the required childhood immunizations have to be given in a series of three or four shots. There is a specific amount of time that has to occur between each shot in the series. The immunization record helps ensure that they are spaced out correctly. While these are age guidelines for when children should get them a child can get off schedule. If they have a fever or they are on antibiotics the doctor will reschedule the immunization. This means the date of their next set in the series will be off as well.

Both adults and children often have to provide their immunization records in order to travel to foreign countries. These have to be presented or travel will not be allowed. It is a good idea to keep your original immunization records at home and to bring two copies with you when you travel. Have the name and phone number of the location you got them at in case there are any questions about them during the course of your travel.

If you are unable to locate your old immunization records or you lose the ones belonging to your children you will need to obtain them from the doctor’s office. If you are looking for older records then it is even more difficult to find them. Sometimes children will be required to start entire sets of immunizations over again if the first ones in the series can’t be verified.

Obtaining the correct immunizations is very important to protect children and adults from diseases that can make them very sick or even result in death. These types of diseases can often be spread to others so immunizations protect society as well. Immunization records offer the importation needed to prove that the protection is in place.
