Godparents Articles - Baptism

Getting baptized is the concept of accepting God into your life. The ceremony is often done when children are very little. They plans are completed by the parents and the leaders of the Church. Getting baptized means the parents agree to raise their child according to the beliefs of the Church. Many adults get baptized later in life because they didn’t join the Church as a child.

The ceremony is completed with the child or the adult being purified with water that is respresentative of water cleansing the soul. In the times of the Bible a baptism took place in the rivers and oceans. Today they take place in a Church in front of the congregation. It is common for a baptism to follow immediately after the Church service. It can be an individual baptism or a group of people who have come forward to accept Christ. For infants and small children the baptism involves a small amount of water being sprinkled onto the forehead of the child. Many adults are completely submerged into water.

It is important to understand that each faith holds different meaning to the ceremony of being baptized. It is not enough to only be baptized and think all of your sins have been wiped away. According to the words found in the Bible a person has to ask for forgiveness of their sins and be on the road to salvation.

There is no right or wrong time in a person’s life to be baptized. Sometimes those who were baptized at a very early age want to do it again when they are old enough to realize the value of the ceremony. It is also common for people not to embrace faith with their family of origin but want to later in life. Also, there are people who convert religions later in their life due to marriage or changes in their own personal beliefs.

Regardless of the specific religion that it is for, a baptism is a very highly regarded ceremony in any Church. It is not one that a person should enter into lightly or be pushed into. It is a personal decision that has to come from within to live your life the way that God wants you to.
