The game of foosball is one that has been around for quite some time. It originated in Germany in the 1890’s. The French were also developing a similar game around this time and they called it babyfoot. The name Foosball is the one that stuck though. It is believed the game originated as a way to offer some time of recreation for war veterans
Today it is common for some children’s hospitals to offer Foosball tables for patients. They learn skills that help them recovery faster including hand/eye coordination and social interaction. In the United States foosball tables are also found in the recreational centers of detention programs for teens and correctional institutions.
The game of foosball can become quite competitive in nature. The ball has been recorded at speeds of up to 40 miles per hour in some of the games. There are many different types of strategies that can be applied in a game of foosball. This makes the action often unpredictable as you would find taking place in a real football game.
There are plenty of foosball competitions that are sponsored by various organizations that you can participate in. While the cash prizes aren’t what you get for other types of competitions they are still quite good. Many people enter these competitions more for the thrill of being part of it and for the prestige of taking the title than anything else.
If you haven’t played foosball you should give it a try. Some people find it to be difficult at first because it requires you to use both hands instead of just the one you are dominate with. Other people find it to be a good challenge for them that they enjoy. The rules of the game are easy enough but learning to manipulate the poles and develop your own strategy definitely takes time.
