Flying any type of aircraft solo is something you can’t do until you have completed all levels of training. The various areas of training you need include the understanding of the basics, classroom hours of learning, emergency procedures, and passing a written exam along with an actual in flight exam.
The amount of hours you have to have in before you can fly solo depends on the program you are working with and they type of aircraft you are operating. It also depends on which type of license you are trying to obtain. Under the guidelines of the Federal Aviation Regulation you need to have a minimum of 40 hours of flight training before you can obtain a private pilots license. Half of these hours must be with the instructor in the plane with you. The other half can be with the instructor on the ground talking to you by radio if they give you permission to do so.
Military requirements for flying solo are much more restricted but this is because of the type of planes they operate. Fighter planes and those with weapons on them require more training so that the pilot fully understands how to operate both the airplane and the weapons they are carrying.
You won’t be allowed to fly solo until you have the consent of the flight instructor. This individual will carefully evaluate you on every aspect of flying an aircraft. As you go through your lessons they will be critiquing you. This gives them the opportunity to identify your strengths and weaknesses. A detailed plan for you will be customized so that you can spend your in flight hours working on the right elements.
Having the ability to fly solo is a wonderful way to feel free to do whatever you want. However flying an aircraft can be dangerous if you aren’t fully trained so there are strict guidelines in place for you to follow before you can take that first solo run. You can be charged with negligence and have to pay fines if you are caught flying solo without the proper credentials. The flying program or instructor you are working with can advise you of how these regulations pertain to your particular situation.
