Artificial intelligence refers to the making of intelligent machines. It can be used in many different areas including voice recognition, video game animation, and software. Most of us use the term to refer to a type of robot that resembles a human. The concept of artificial intelligence was first introduced in 1950.
A well known scientist by the name of Alan Turning Developed a test to determine a machine’s ability to carry on a conversation in the same manner as a human. The test is conducted by having a human interact with a basic conversation with two other parties. One of them is another human and the other is a machine. If the person is not able to determine if they are having a conversation with the human or the machine then the machine is compatible.
Most of the information we have on artificial intelligence today is a combination of analysis and statistics. Some of the different methods of artificial intelligence include expert systems for reasoning and conclusions, case base reasoning to store problems and answers for the machine to use, and behavior systems so that artificial intelligence will copy particular ones in a given situation.
Artificial intelligence has been modified and researched for the past 60 years. It is expensive to invest the time and the energy to do so. There was virtually no money for artificial intelligence research in the 1970’s and the 1980’s. That is why there is such a gap from advances in the area from the 1960’s to the 1990’s.
However artificial intelligence has proven to be quite valuable in some instances. The United States has information to verify that the artificial intelligence used in the Gulf War of 1991 saved more money that the United States had spent researching it from 1950 to 1990. That make it a very worthwhile investment to continue.
In 1994 two vehicles equipped with artificial intelligence drove passengers on a highway in Paris. The vehicles successfully kept up with the traffic, passed cars, and changed lanes without any problems. In 1997 the artificial intelligence set up by IBM beat the world champion in a game of chess. In 2005 robots with artificial intelligence were being used in an experiment to take orders and deliver food in restaurants.
